I grew up with a grandmother who wore custom-made hats and couture clothing. While I’ve adopted much of her style, I always lacked the confidence—or the attitude—to wear hats myself. After all, it’s been at least fifty years since hat-wearing was commonplace.
That changed when I enrolled in Jackie’s hat-making class at Railway Arts. Suddenly, I fell in love with the process of making hats and began looking forward to class every week. From the very start, it was clear that Jackie is an artist. Her ideas and creations are captivating, and she is—then and now—a wonderful teacher and motivator.
As time passed, my abilities and skills improved—along with my confidence. Hat-making is a craft that’s both intricate and philosophical. Through these classes and the privilege of working with Jackie, a master hat maker, I now wear the hats I’ve made—and the ones she has so elegantly crafted for me—with pride and a newfound attitude. ❤️❤️❤️
Recently, I stopped into a high-end hat store in Manhattan just to browse. While the hats were certainly beautiful, they all lacked Jackie’s oomph!
